The F-CUBED Project Participated in the EUBCE’S 29th European Biomass Conference & Exhibition
Pavlina Nanou, researcher and project manager on dry and wet torrefaction technologies at TNO Energy Transition, presented the F-CUBED project in the EUBCE’s 29th European Biomass Conference & Exhibition. Each year EUBCE brings together researchers, industries and academia leading global biomass-related technology innovations.
Ms. Nanou discussed the Hydrothermal Conversion of Wet Organic Residues to Intermediate Bioenergy Carriers in the F-CUBED project, within the topic: “Thermally Treated Biomass on its Way to the Market”.
The F-CUBED project aims to convert wet, organic residues, produced by different types of industries, namely paper sludge, fruit & vegetable waste and wet olive pomace, into high-quality intermediate solid bioenergy carriers, with the implementation of the TORWASH® hydrothermal treatment and dewatering.
TNO’s participation featured the work realized in Phase I of the project, which involved the definition of the chemical and physical properties of the three wet organic streams, and the determination of the optimal conditions needed for the hydrothermal treatment (TORWASH®), required for the preparation of the pilot plant campaign, which will start in Phase 2 of the project. The pilot plant will be installed on-site at each industrial location where the residue streams are generated.
